How the Metaverse Continuum Can Help Upscale Soft Skills and Prevent Overcrowding at Events

A report by Accenture talks about the development of the metaverse or in the term it created Metaverse Continuum. We first must start from the beginning to see where we are in the upcoming decades. The beginning of the internet started an era of networks. At first, when we used the internet all we could do is read from sites. Then as technology continued to advance, we had the opportunity to write! Send emails, write in chat rooms, and even write our own forum. As we continue to advance and evolve, we have the ability to share a podcast, we can share and tag our friends via an app from our smartphones. In our current state of technology and what companies are pushing is the Metaverse. Even companies like Facebook changed their name and entity to Meta just to rebrand for the sake of the future. Metaverse includes away the internet belongs to no one and everyone. As of recently most of the times when we log into any company’s website to use its services the companies own the rights and information. Metaverse is centered around what is called web3, where all the public has access to and owns a part of the information. More things will be interconnected and engage with each other for better use or accountability.
But how would a program operate in the Metaverse Continuum and upskill adults on a soft skill? In 2020 Travis Scott an artist performed for over 27 million attendees on Fortnite an online game in an event called Astronomical. This event took place in the virtual world where users who played the Fortnite game could watch from any device that would play the game. This was the first concert of its kind, and it was a huge success. In 2021 the same artist, Travis Scott, performed in Houston Texas at an event called Astroworld. According to USA Today, the capacity for the venue was 20,000, but the concert saw an attendance of 50,000 fans. It saddens me to state that 8 people died that night during the concert due to the overcrowding.
How can this be a benefit? The Metaverse continuum can connect many devices together, people can attend online concerts just to name some examples. We can use the Metaverse Continuum to upskill people to interconnect them while at a big event in order to prevent a situation like the one from Astroworld. While people attended the virtual concert no such causalities occurred. We can help people show people the benefits of this through soft skills.
